1976 Chevy C10
In the 70’s trucks were meant for work rather than family. It was much later that crew cab pickups would become a staple. Sometimes a fun kustom build consists of taking the ingredients that the manufacturers had at their disposal and rearranging them into a “what if” build. What if; GM decided to offer a half-ton 2wd crew cab short bed. They didn’t see a need for it back then, but we decided we needed one. Starting with basically a pile of parts, a single cab short bed frame was stretched roughly 30” and the rest was put together like legos. The drivetrain was an 010 block with forged internals, the classic “Camel Hump” heads, an obnoxiously rowdy cam, and a 700R4 transmission. The rear end was a five lug 12 bolt posi. The truck was so good the feeling shifted from “what if” to “why didn't they”. Sadly this combo may have been too good for this world. Shortly after the truck sold it was involved in a violent head-on collision that destroyed it. The owner of the truck, a good friend of the shop, was not at fault and luckily walked away but the truck couldn’t be saved.
