1980 z28 Camaro
Nothing personifies the 80’s better than a z28. The fuel shortages and the smog regulations of the 70’s did their best to choke out the American muscle-car. By 1980 the Z28 was the last remaining real “Pony Car”. Ford had shrunk down to the fox-body mustang, and the challenger was unrecognizable, but the z28 held-on to its 350 and its full-figure. While the smog-era motors were fairly disappointing from the factory, many enthusiasts still took it upon themselves to turn up the wick. This particular Z28 is the perfect example of a true American reviving the spirit of what the government took away. The 190 hp 350 ci motor was swapped out for a 480 hp 383 ci stroker motor. The original Super T10 four speed in these cars was good, but the new TKX five speed is even better. The power-plant is arguably a bit much, and the car itself would probably be one to argue that. Shortly after installing the new motor the owner had one particularly violent launch that buckled the roof of the car. This car was built to be enjoyed and can often be spotted driving down the Boulevard with the windows down and hair-metal blasting.
